  • Title: [Demographic estimates for 1993: immigration higher than ever before].
    Author: De Beer J.
Journal: Maandstat Bevolking; 1993 Dec; 41(12):13-20. PubMed ID: 12286935.
    Abstract:
"On the basis of monthly observations for the first eight months of 1993, annual totals of births, deaths and migration have been estimated for 1993 [for the Netherlands]. Total immigration in 1993 is expected to be around 125 thousand. This would imply that immigration is higher than ever before. The main cause of the increase is the strong rise in the number of asylum seekers.... The number of births is expected to decline slightly in 1993.... In 1993 the number of deaths is expected to increase more strongly than the rising long-term trend. The extra increase is caused by a sudden increase of deaths in the spring due to an influenza epidemic. Due to the increase in migration population growth in 1993 will be higher than in 1992."
