Title: Zambian PWAs become peer educators. Journal: AIDS Anal Afr; 1994; 4(5):6. PubMed ID: 12287910. Abstract: Kara Counseling, Zambian nongovernmental organization, formed a group of 10 people with AIDS which visited 850 work places and addressed 65,000 people during 1992-93. The companies paid for the sessions which provided group counseling in the form of basic AIDS education and personal testimonies. Pre/post-intervention questionnaires showed that counseling improved attitudes towards people with AIDS. Before the sessions, 34% of respondents believed people with AIDS led immoral lives, 26% felt that AIDS victims should be isolated, and 60% reported that they would not like to work with them. After counseling, these figures dropped to 16, 10, and 17%, respectively. Reported use of condoms rose from 46 to 64% after the sessions.[Abstract] [Full Text] [Related] [New Search]
