Title: Resolution No. 43/101. Implementation of the Nairobi Forward-Looking Strategies for the Advancement of Women, 8 December 1988. Author: United Nations. General Assembly. Journal: Annu Rev Popul Law; 1988; 15():149, 536-9. PubMed ID: 12289234. Abstract: This document contains the text of a 1988 UN Resolution on implementation of the Nairobi Forward-looking Strategies for the Advancement of Women (NFLS). The recommendation notes the report of the Secretary-General on the implementation of the NFLS, recalls the UN recommendation that implementation of the NFLS be a priority in the medium-term plan for 1992-97, and reaffirms the need for the NFLS to be translated into immediate action by governments and organizations. The central role of the Commission on the Status of Women in promoting implementation of the NFLS is also reaffirmed and the resolution extends the 34th session of the Commission by 10 days. The resolution further emphasizes the importance of the total integration of women in the development process and the need to give urgent attention to redressing socioeconomic inequities, directs particular attention to the situation of disabled women, and endorses the resolutions of the Economic and Social Council requesting a seminar on women and rural development and recommending that the World Survey on the Role of Women in Development be updated. The Secretary-General and executive heads of other UN bodies are once again called upon to establish five-year targets for the percentage of women in professional and decision-making positions. After recommending some reporting mechanisms, this document requests continuation of the weekly radio programs on women, broadcast in different languages.[Abstract] [Full Text] [Related] [New Search]
