Title: Resolution No. 43/93, Implementation of the International Plan of Action on Aging and related activities, 8 December 1988. Author: United Nations. General Assembly. Journal: Annu Rev Popul Law; 1988; 15():175, 568-71. PubMed ID: 12289318. Abstract: This document contains the text of a 1988 UN Resolution on Implementation of the International Plan of Action on Aging and Related Activities. The 1988 resolution recalls previous UN resolutions and other efforts to implement the Plan of Action. The General Assembly then notes the Secretary-General's report on aging and welcomes the UN's system-wide approach to issues of aging as well as the establishment of the International Institute on Aging (IIA) in Malta. The resolution then requests that the Secretary-General report on IIA activities. Other recommendations include those which 1) stress the importance of implementing the Plan of Action at all levels, 2) urge the strengthening of existing programs on aging, 3) support the Secretary-General's recommended ways to support implementation of the Plan of Action, 4) make aging a priority theme for the UN, 5) urge that the Aging Unit staff be maintained at appropriate levels, 6) encourage further research to help member states develop profiles of their elderly population in order to ensure the full participation of the elderly in development, 7) ask the Commission on the Status of Women to pay attention to the problems of elderly women, 8) organize a commemoration of the 10th anniversary of the World Assembly on Aging, 9) appeal for contributions to the UN Trust Fund for Aging, 10) applaud the Secretary-General's efforts to find the optimal use of the original Trust Fund resources, 11) call for continued support for projects and activities dealing with the question of aging, and 12) include the aging issue in the agenda of the 44th session of the General Assembly.[Abstract] [Full Text] [Related] [New Search]
