Title: Supreme Resolution No. 0125-88-PCM, 18 April 1988. Author: Peru. Journal: Annu Rev Popul Law; 1988; 15():3, 279-92. PubMed ID: 12289520. Abstract: Peru's National Population Program for 1987-90 was approved by resolution on April 18, 1988. This document contains various sections of the Population Program beginning with a statement of the objectives and goals of the program. The general objective is to improve the quality of life for the Peruvian people, in particular by decreasing population growth, decreasing maternal-child mortality, promoting a sociocultural environment that allows people to make free and responsible decisions regarding family size, and promoting improved population distribution. Specific goals include achieving a growth rate of 2.2% and decreasing the fertility rate to 3.7 in 1990, modifying migration patterns to encourage the development of medium and small cities in three regions, and improving the condition of women and children by eradicating illiteracy and malnutrition and extending health service and family planning (FP) coverage. The implementation strategy of the plan relies on information dissemination, education, provision of services, and research. The population communication program will develop specific lines of action in the areas of 1) population and development, 2) maternal-child health, 3) FP, 4) women and the family, and 5) population and the environment. The objectives, contents, target audience, and programs and means are outlined for each of these areas. Objectives and goals are also listed for the population education component which will encompass the areas of sociodemographics, population and the environment, and family and sexuality. The lines of action for the program on FP include strengthening services, training, IEC (information, education, and communication), research, and intra- and intersectoral coordination. The population research and statistics program will focus on establishing research priorities, executing population studies, creating a database, and developing publications. The program of territorial population distribution aims to decrease interregional migratory trends by promoting regional development. The program on the promotion of women will work to fully integrate women into the political, social, and cultural productive process through education, training, improving health services, a review of legislation, and the promotion of women-centered research. The program on strengthening the family will emphasize that the family is the basic unit of society and will promote the notion that responsible parenthood must be shared by husband and wife.[Abstract] [Full Text] [Related] [New Search]
