    Abstract:
    This document contains major provisions of the 1987 Family Code of Zaire relating to a married woman's name, the registration of vital statistics, the legal domicile of a married woman, the definition of a minor, and the emancipation of a minor upon marriage. Also included are the sections of Title 1 (marriage) which provide the general characteristics of marriage; protect the freedom to marry; cover general provisions relating to engagement; describe the formation of marriage in terms of the goal of marriage, the consent to marry, dowries, marriage procedures, penalties relating to the conditions of marriage, the effects of marriage (in general, regarding the household, and nonproperty effects), and the three matrimonial regimes which apply to marital property; and the dissolution of marriage by death or divorce.
