Title: [Experience with a hormonal implant contraceptive]. Journal: Bol Asoc Chil Prot Fam; 1992; 28(7-12):6-8. PubMed ID: 12289916. Abstract: Results of a Chilean study of Norplant subdermal implants are summarized. The contraceptive effect of Norplant is achieved through inhibition of ovulation in 50% of cycles, by thickening of the cervical mucus, and by changes in endometrial maturation. 691 women from the Metropolitan Central health area of Santiago were studied for 10,915 cycles. 32% were aged 18-24, 38% were aged 25-29, and 22% were aged 30-34. 25% had one child, 40% had two, and 23% had three. 94% had used a contraceptive method previously, and 32% had had one or more abortions. 51% had basic and 37% had intermediate levels of education. 53% smoked. 12% of the women terminated use: 5 for pregnancy, 36 for menstrual problems, 48 for other medical reasons, 28 to become pregnant, and 11 for personal reasons. The Pearl index was 0.0/100 woman years at 12 months, 0.36 at 24 months, and 0.55 at 36 months.[Abstract] [Full Text] [Related] [New Search]
