Title: Just for men. Author: Nyong'o D. Journal: Afr Link; 1996 Apr; ():3. PubMed ID: 12292585. Abstract: Some men in Africa have taken health decisions, particularly those concerning sexual and reproductive health and contraception, jointly with their partners. Among the men who have jointly made decisions with their partners, there have been, and continue to be, those who opt to bear the burden of the contraception, for the good of both. Then there are those, who have supported their partners in deciding to use a chosen contraceptive method. These men have played a supportive and caring role during the pregnancy, childbearing, and child rearing process. All of them have been proud of their actions and are regarded with respect. Indeed, it is the responsibility and right of every man, to determine together with his partner, the most convenient, safe, and suitable method of contraception, as well as measures to be taken to ensure sexual and reproductive health of each and both. Every man must share the responsibility for the couple's practice of contraception. Moving away from past tradition, where family planning services were directed only to women and married couples, Family Planning Associations in Africa are looking to the establishment of some family planning and reproductive health services that are just for men.[Abstract] [Full Text] [Related] [New Search]
