Title: Family planning quality improvement initiatives in Niger. Journal: QA Brief; 1992 May; 1(2):4-6. PubMed ID: 12295542. Abstract: This paper reports quality improvement initiatives in family planning in Niger. In November 1991, the AID-funded Niger Family Health and Demography Project (NFHDP) requested technical support from staff of the Quality Assurance Project (QAP) for the introduction of quality improvement techniques to family planning management. This collaboration resulted in developing a package of training materials, which presented an operation research serving as a practical tool for routine problem solving in management. After developing the material, the QAP supported Dr. Alou Sani, Regional Health Director of Agadez, in organizing a 3-day operation research workshop for his management staff. The workshop was to guide participants from varied sectors in formulating protocols for problem-solving studies, in which the managers would subsequently carry out. At the end of the workshop, the three teams had completed much groundwork for their study protocols, and within 3 weeks they had submitted drafts of their protocols for review by the training team. The collaborative effort of QAP and NFHDP in promoting family planning quality improvement was a success and because of such result, the Family Planning Director had requested that the experience be done in other regions.[Abstract] [Full Text] [Related] [New Search]
