    Abstract:
A retrospective study of tubectomy cases and 8751 vasectomy cases performed in Ajmer District, Rajasthan, India, is presented. Data are given for the average number of living children, by sex, for both tubectomy and vasectomy acceptors. The education level of the vasectomy acceptors and the religion of both tubectomy and vasectomy acceptors are tabulated. The ratio of vasectomy to tubectomy among Muslims was 3:1 in 1969-1970 and 3:2 in 1970-1971. Vasectomy acceptors were motivated to have the operation at the average age of 37.41 years and had an average of 3 sons and 2 daughters. The most common immediate complication with vasectomy was hematoma. The occurrence of pregnancy after vasectomy and complications associated with the operation are its primary detracting features. Conditions for the success of the sterilization program are discussed.
