Title: A survey of contraceptive markets in four African countries. Author: Black T. Journal: Fam Plann Resume; 1977; 1(1):171-3. PubMed ID: 12308781. Abstract: A study of the commercial contraceptive market in Ghana, Nigeria, Uganda, and Kenya indicates that the commercial sector makes an important contribution to birth control in each of the countries. Only in Kenya did distribution of contraceptives by the family planning organizations exceed that of the commercial sector. Affluent, urban, and expatriate communities tended to obtain their contraceptives through the commercial sector. At current prices, the market for pills cannot be expanded but there is room for increased distribution of condoms and vaginal spermicides through commercial avenues.[Abstract] [Full Text] [Related] [New Search]
