    Abstract:
    The national composition of the population of Yugoslavia is described using data from a variety of official sources, including the 1981 census. Changes in the national composition between 1971 and 1981 are also discussed. Consideration is given to differences in birth, death, and natural increase rates by nationality and to the territorial distribution of the various national groups. An increase in heterogeneity of the ethnic composition of the population is noted, as well as an increase in those identifying themselves as Yugoslavs not belonging to a specific national group.
