    Abstract:
    The factors affecting the decline in infant mortality in the Cuban municipality of Remedios between 1970 and 1980 are analyzed. The importance of environmental factors is stressed, and the concept of social risk, in which attention is devoted to the infants most at risk, is emphasized. The author notes that a reduction in infant mortality of 62.7 percent was achieved over the decade, resulting in a 1980 infant mortality rate of 11.2 per 1,000 live births. (summary in ENG, FRE)
