  • Title: [Rural development and the process of urbanization in the third world].
    Author: Courade G, Bruneau M.
Journal: Cah Orstom (Sci Hum); 1983; 19(1):59-92. PubMed ID: 12313344.
    Abstract:
The effect of rural development on the process of urbanization in developing countries is examined through a review of the literature. The authors suggest that rural development can give rise to three types of urbanization: diffuse urbanization without a concentration of the population in towns, embryonic or deviant urbanization, and urbanization that leads to both a concentration of population in towns and a spread of elements of the urban way of life into rural areas.
