    Abstract:
    Past and present trends in emigration from Haiti are reviewed. The author notes that over one million persons, or about one-sixth of the native-born population, are currently living abroad. This out-migration occurred primarily during the period of U.S. occupation from 1915 to 1934 and since the 1960s during the Duvalier regime. This migration has recently changed significantly in type, volume, and destination. The reasons for these changes are discussed. (SUMMARY IN ENG)
