Title: Fluctuating levels of LH-RH in pituitary portal blood during the cycle after castration. Journal: Res Reprod; 1977 May; 9(3):2. PubMed ID: 12326804. Abstract: The concentration of luteinizing hormone-releasing hormone (LH-RH) in pituitary portal blood was measured in cyclic female rats after castration, and following the electrochemical stimulation of the medial preoptic area. Levels of LH-RH in ovariectomized rats increased just before the LH surge and persisted at high levels into diestrus. Electrochemical stimulation on the afternoon of proestrus caused a large increase in LH-RH in portal plasma, which then declined to low levels 2 hours later. LH-release occurred 1-2 hours after stimulation, which suggests that the activity of hypothalamic centers promotes the released of LH. There was no evidence of a diurnal variation in the content of LH-RH in the 4-day cycle.[Abstract] [Full Text] [Related] [New Search]
