Title: Cytological study in cases with intrauterine contraceptive device (Lippes' Loop). Author: Aikat M, Pande M. Journal: J Obstet Gynaecol India; 1968 Apr; 18(2):270-3. PubMed ID: 12331818. Abstract: Cytological examination of 128 women with IUDs (Lippes' Loop) was undertaken for 1 year to evaluate their hormonal status. The effect of the loop on the cervical epithelium was studied by Papanicolaou technique. 69% of the women with regular menstruation before insertion had ovulatory smears with excess of superficial cells taken within 5 days of the onset of the next period. Of 29 women who had loops inserted during lactational amenorrhea, 23 had ovulatory smears and 12 had anovulatory smears. Pre-insertion cervical smears in 208 women were Type I, 54.8%, Type II, 35.6%, Type III, 9.1% and Type IV, .5%. During follow-up of 176 women, 47.2% of the smears were Type I, 51.1% were Type II, and 1.1% were Type III.[Abstract] [Full Text] [Related] [New Search]
