Abstract: "This paper is intended to examine two propositions with regard to the educational characteristics of migrants to cities [in India]: Firstly, migration to urban areas is highly selective of educated persons. Secondly, most educated female migrants are more likely to be dependents of male migrants than workers at the place of destination.
