    Abstract:
    This Act sets forth the law on guardianship in Saint Vincent and the Grenadines. This law is based on 2 principles, among others: 1) the parental rights of mother and father are to be equal; and 2) in court proceedings, the welfare of the minor is the "first and paramount consideration." The Act contains provisions on the power of parents and courts to appoint guardians; the powers of guardians; court orders for custody and maintenance; the method of determining maintenance; variation, duration, and enforcement of orders; disagreement between joint guardians; access of grandparents to minors; and religious education, among other things.
