Title: Act of 13 June 1989 reforming adoption. Author: Luxembourg. Journal: Annu Rev Popul Law; 1989; 16():115-6. PubMed ID: 12344051. Abstract: Among the most important changes made by this Act reforming Luxembourg adoption law are the following: 1) full adoption is irrevocable; 2) the age from which the adopted person must consent to adoption is lowered from 16 to 15; 3) an adopted person's parents must both consent to the adoption of their child, even if separated or divorced; 4) a court can dispense with the requirement that a parent not having custody consent if that parent unreasonably withholds consent; 5) the condition that a marriage last a certain length of time before a husband and wife can adopt is eliminated; 6) persons wishing to adopt must be over 25 years old; 7) if married persons wish to adopt, one must be at least 25 years old and the other at least 21 years old; and 8) there is no age requirement to adopt the legitimate, natural, or adoptive child of one's spouse. In addition, the Act generally simplifies the procedure for adoption and regularizes the procedure for declaring a child abandoned.[Abstract] [Full Text] [Related] [New Search]
