Abstract: On 28 November, 1988, Senegal adopted a decree organizing its Ministry of Social Development (MSD). The responsibilities of the MSD are to improve family welfare, particularly by promoting the rights of women and children, and to implement a policy of social protection towards the elderly. One of the departments of the MSD is the Directorate for the Family and Women's Rights, which is composed of the Division for Family and Women's Rights (responsible for improving living conditions for women, promoting women's groups and technical training, integrating women into development projects, and facilitating the economic and social promotion of women); the Division for the Protection of Childhood, the Division of Family Planning (which includes efforts to improve maternal-child health), and the Division of the Elderly (including the organization of associations for the elderly and creating development projects to be managed by the elderly).[Abstract] [Full Text] [Related] [New Search]
