Title: Decree No. 89-50/PCSON/MAS/CF of 1 September 1989 determining the functions of the Minister of Social Affairs and the Status of Women. Author: Niger. Abstract: This Decree provides that the Niger Minister of Social Affairs and the Status of Women is responsible for the application of the national policy relating to social affairs, the status of women, and family planning within the framework defined by the Higher Council of National Orientation. To this end the Minister has the following functions: 1) supervising the formulation and application of legislation relating to social affairs, family planning, and the status of women; 2) identifying and/or supervising all development projects relating to social affairs, family planning, and the status of women and ensuring their control; and 3) participating in the training of social affairs personnel and leaders in women's groups. In the area of family planning the Minister is responsible for 1) defining and implementing the family planning policy; 2) promoting research in the area of family planning in concert with concerned ministries; and 3) supervising the integration of family planning activities into health training, in particular, in offices offering maternal-child care. In the area of the status of women the Minister is responsible for 1) contributing to the formulation of a family code; 2) defining and implementing a national policy for the promotion of women; 3) ensuring the integration of women in the process of economic, social, political, and cultural development of the country in concert with concerned ministries; 4) supporting the organization and mobilization of women with a goal of ensuring their full participation in the implementation of activities and programs that work toward their development, in collaboration with women's institutions, movements, and associations; 5) ensuring the coordination of actions taken with respect to women by different institutions, movements, and associations; 6) ensuring the support and control of women's associations, movements, and institutions; 7) supporting the creation of educational institutions promoting women and ensuring their control; and 8) establishing relations with women's associations, movements, and institutions in Niger and in other countries and with international organizations and organizations of Niger women abroad.[Abstract] [Full Text] [Related] [New Search]
