    Abstract:
    This document contains provisions of the March 1988 Articles and Programme of Action of the Popular Front of Burkina Faso, which serves as the nation's constitution. Chapter 2 of Title 1 names the improvement of living conditions of the people and the emancipation of women as objectives of the Popular Front. In the area of health, priority actions will consist of 1) expanding mass immunization programs, 2) arriving at basic sanitation and public hygiene, 3) eliminating nutritional deficiencies, 4) strengthening the control of endemic diseases, 5) developing a system of regular surveillance of vulnerable groups, 6) providing follow-up services to mothers and children, 7) taking legislative means to improve the financial capabilities of health facilities, 8) training health personnel, 9) developing a pharmaceutical policy, and 10) developing applied research in modern and traditional medicine. In the area of social action, the Popular Front will assure the economic promotion of women and construct child care centers proximate to work places. Urgent measures will be carried out to guarantee women the same rights as men in marriage and divorce and to protect children from begging, prostitution, and delinquency. In the area of education and scientific research, the Popular Front will eliminate illiteracy, provide access to basic education to all resident children, increase the number of professional schools, institute new disciplines in areas like population education, reform the educational system, insure that girls have access to education, and grant scholarships to needy children. In the area of housing, the main objective is to insure that each person has decent housing.
