    Abstract:
    The goal of the Guinea National Literacy Department is to devise, put into operation, and supervise the execution of the government's literacy policy. In particular, it is charged with 1) devising the strategy, methods, and program for literacy for different social groups, supervising it, and evaluating its implementation; 2) promoting and organizing cooperation and the sharing of experiences between Guinea and other countries with respect to literacy; 3) promoting, coordinating, and supervising literacy activities carried out locally by different interventionist and support groups contributing to basic development; 4) researching and negotiating the financing of literacy activities and evaluating cooperation agreements in this area; 5) undertaking the necessary linguistic research for literacy in national languages and devising literacy texts and programs; 6) organizing the training of people who will train others and lending educational assistance to local activities; and 7) devising and testing literacy teaching tools.
