Title: Order of 5 June 1989. Author: Israel. Ministry of Religion. Journal: Annu Rev Popul Law; 1989; 16():66. PubMed ID: 12344498. Abstract: On June 5, 1989 the Israeli Ministry of Religion issued an Order establishing a new rabbinical court to deal with the problems of "Agunot" (abandoned wives) and women whose husbands refuse to give them a divorce. The court is made up of 3 presidents of other rabbinical courts and will deal with difficult cases referred to it. Under Jewish law the consent of the husband is required before a divorce can be granted, although in some cases a court can grant a divorce, e.g., if the husband has disappeared.[Abstract] [Full Text] [Related] [New Search]
