    Abstract:
    This Turkish Act makes the following changes in law relating to divorce: 1) a spouse who is at greater fault may obtain a divorce over the objection of the other spouse if raising the objection constitutes legal abuse and it appears unnecessary to continue the marriage in order to protect the interests of the spouse or children; 2) divorce by mutual consent is allowed if the marriage has lasted at least 1 year; 3) divorce after separation is allowed; 4) maintenance for a spouse who becomes needy after divorce can be ordered for more than 1 year; 5) the spouse seeking this maintenance need not be absolutely without fault; 6) maintenance can be varied according to the changing needs of the spouse receiving maintenance and the changing resources of the spouse providing maintenance; and 7) during divorce proceedings, a court can order necessary provisional measures relating to housing, support, use of household goods and marital property, and custody of children.
