Abstract: This Quebec, Canada Act replaces existing legislation on family allowances and provides the following: 1) a family has a right to a monthly family allowance for each child under the age of 18 who is not married and who is considered to have his or her principal residence in Quebec; 2) a family has a right to a monthly family allowance for each handicapped child for whom a regular family allowance is payable; 3) a family has a right to a monthly young child allowance for each child under the age of 6 for whom a family allowance is payable; 4) a family has a right to a 1-time birth allowance payable on the birth of a 1st or 2nd child or on the adoption of such a child under 2 years old; and 5) a family having at least 2 children has a right to a trimestrial family allowance for each additional child born to it and each additional child under 2wo years old adopted by it for whom a family allowance is payable.
