    Abstract:
    This Burundi Decree creates a National Council of Childhood and Youth as a consultative body to devise, coordinate, and evaluate activities relating to childhood and youth. The specific functions of the Council are 1) to participate in devising a global policy for childhood and youth which is based on the real needs and aspirations of the concerned groups; 2) to coordinate and evaluate all activities undertaken by different public and private institutions to aid childhood and youth; 3) to ensure the integration of schooled and unschooled youth in the sociopolitical and cultural activities and economic systems of the country; and 4) to participate in the protection of youth and children from social scourges of every kind. Further provisions of the Decree-Law deal with the composition, structure, and meetings of the Council, among other things.
