Title: "Where have all the flowers gone?". Author: Lee JW. Journal: CVI Forum; 1995 Jun; (9):7-8. PubMed ID: 12348468. Abstract: The Children's Vaccine Initiative (CVI) is a product of the September 1990 World Summit for Children held in New York to discuss universal child immunization against preventable childhood diseases. Delegates from 159 countries attended the conference, after which scientists, public health experts, industrialists, and others began working upon task forces and development groups to prepare for new and better vaccines. The author was asked in 1994 to run the new Global Program for Vaccines and Immunization (GPV) created to bring order to the World Health Organization's dispersed vaccine-related activities. Progress has been made under the GPV, with the program enjoying the support of major donors in America, Asia, and Europe. The CVI has since undergone some changes and is tasked with spreading to the world the original vision of simple immunization against a broad range of diseases, and how to get there.[Abstract] [Full Text] [Related] [New Search]
