Title: More and more young people get HIV / AIDS. Journal: ReproWatch (Youth Ed); ; 5(1):1-2. PubMed ID: 12349210. Abstract: The effect of the economic crisis on the intensification of the HIV/AIDS epidemic among young people in Asia is reported. More young girls are forced into prostitution to support their families. In Thailand, the success in promoting safe sexual practices has been missed. The urgency of economic recovery has reduced the public health education issue in the list of priorities of the government. In the Philippines, heterosexual transmission of AIDS still accounts for the most common route of transmission. The Department of Social Work and Development brought street prostitutes both female and male aged 12-14 years old to the SERRA Institute for Girls in Maricaban and a shelter house for boys in Pasay. Here, they were given the choice to either stay at the shelters or return to their homes. However, many children escape from the rehabilitation centers, resisting authority, and resume the routine of life on the street.[Abstract] [Full Text] [Related] [New Search]
