  • Title: [Congenital syphilis. Apropos of 3 cases with early neonatal manifestations].
Author: Gérard P, Chakroun A, Louyot MJ, Ben Cheikh T.

    Abstract:
Three patients with early congenital syphilis are described. A slight degree of prematurity was a common feature. Symptomatology consisted in a combination of various lesions of the skin, bones, respiratory and nervous systems. Despite prompt initiation of therapy with penicillin, one patient died a few hours after birth. Another patient's death was attributed to a secondary Klebsiella overinfection. This demonstrates the severity of the syphilitic injury for the newborn infant when it manifests itself at birth.
