Title: [Change of approach in tumor therapy: role of percutaneous and vascular ablation in the treatment of advanced primary and secondary liver cancer]. Author: Engloner L. Journal: Orv Hetil; 2002 Nov 10; 143(45):2523-30. PubMed ID: 12501558. Abstract: The palliative treatment of primary and secondary hepatic carcinomas is required if surgical ablation is not possible. In practice, screening and follow up of even the endangered population are insufficient. This is why, in most cases, the hepatic carcinomas are diagnosed only at an advanced stage when surgical therapy is hardly possible. The interventional radiological methods, percutaneous and vascular ablations are frequently used for palliative treatment. In that case if the diameters of the tumors are less than 4-5 cm and the number of the lesions is less than 5, radiofrequency ablation is the best choice. At a more advanced stage, local intraarterial chemotherapy chemoembolization and occlusion of the feeding artery combined with systemic chemotherapy can be performed. The author reveals the therapeutic methods, indications, possible combinations and the prospective results. According to the latest literature, it is pointed out that the described therapeutic methods are effective and parts of the complex oncology treatment. These applications are not optional since long and quality of life of the patients are much worse without complex treatment.[Abstract] [Full Text] [Related] [New Search]
