Title: [Urachal cysts during childhood]. Author: Gómez Díaz ME, Tornero Ruiz JI, Caffaratti Sfulcini J, Garat Barredo JM. Journal: Arch Esp Urol; 2003 Apr; 56(3):300-2. PubMed ID: 12768992. Abstract: OBJECTIVE: To assess diagnosis and treatment of uracal cysts. METHODS: We reviewed the medical records and radiological studies of four patients who were treated for a urachal anomaly: two urachal cysts and two urachal abscesses. Diagnostic evaluation included, ultrasound, computerized tomography and magnetic resonance. RESULTS: Treatment of urachal abscesses involved drainage and secondary excision. The urachal cyst does not require surgical intervention. CONCLUSIONS: Ultrasound is an excellent diagnostic tool for patients with urachal cysts. Infected cysts may present with pain, tenderness and erythema in the infraumbilical region. Extraperitoneal excision is the treatment of choice, although large infected cysts may require an initial drainage procedure.[Abstract] [Full Text] [Related] [New Search]
