Abstract: Hemophagocytic syndrome (HPS) is a rare and life-threatening disease in which a generalized histiocytic proliferation results in hemophagocytosis and up-regulation of inflammatory cytokines. This syndrome has been associated with infections, malignancy, drugs and immunologic triggers such as Kawasaki disease (KD).
