    Abstract:
In 2001 global increase in reported cases of pertussis in Poland was observed. The total number of reported cases was 2411, 142 more than in 2000. A general trend of increase in the fraction of older cases continues since 1992. More cases occurred among females (7.0/100,000) than among males (5.4/100,000) and in urban areas (7.8/100,000) than in rural areas (3.7/100,000). The vaccination coverage for the children below 2 was 98.2%. The quality of the reporting and laboratory confirmation of pertussis has improved. 58.6% of cases were confirmed by ELISA test, 0.1% by culture.
