  • Title: FURTHER STUDIES OF EXPERIMENTAL ALLERGIC ENCEPHALOMYELITIS IN THE FOWL. 3. THE ENCEPHALOPATHIC EFFECT OF HOMOLOGOUS AND HETEROLOGOUS ALLERGENS, AND THE SUSCEPTIBILITY OF DIFFERENT LINES IN A CLOSED FLOCK.
    Author: SILLER WG, WIGHT PA.
Journal: Immunology; 1965 Mar; 8(3):223-9. PubMed ID: 14315105.
    Abstract:
Following the injection of adjuvant alone into a strain of domestic fowl known to be susceptible to EAE, a mild perivascular reaction was observed in the central nervous system. The severity of these lesions was not increased by combining homogenates of testis, yolk, kidney, liver or uropygeal gland with the adjuvant. Six out of eight inbred lines of Brown Leghorns and one reciprocal cross were similar in quantitative histological response to a standard EAE inducing inoculum. The two remaining lines were significantly less susceptible to the inoculum. Mammalian, avian and reptilian spinal cord tissues were encephalitogenic to the domestic fowl. Piscine spinal cord tissue was ineffective.
