    Abstract:
    Of 2,780 specimens of midstream urine (MSU) collected from patients of Medical out-patient Unit of Lagos University Teaching Hospital (LUTH), and examined between March 1989 and February 1990, 780 (28.1%) had bacterial colony counts greater than 100,000 per ml. The commonest pathogens were E. coli, Klebsiella aerogenes, Proteus mirabilis, Pseudomonas aeruginosa. 9.8% of the infections were caused by Gram-positive bacteria while 6.0% were due to the fungus, Candida albicans and Candida species.
