Title: [Enteroperitoneal anastomosis for short bowel syndrome]. Author: Erez I, Rode H, Cywes S. Journal: Harefuah; 1992 Jul; 123(1-2):5-8, 72. PubMed ID: 1505847. Abstract: Creation of neomucosa is one of many experimental surgical techniques tried in order to improve the results of the complicated treatment of short bowel syndrome. The syndrome is associated with severe physical and mental retardation and not infrequently may be fatal. In this experimental study on pigs and rats we successfully enlarged the small bowel surface by growing new mucosa on the parietal peritoneum following enteroperitoneal anastomosis. The technique has 2 more important advantages: fluids and electrolytes are absorbed through the peritoneum and bowel transit time is slowed.[Abstract] [Full Text] [Related] [New Search]
