Journal: Gynecol Oncol; 2004 May; 93(2):554-6. PubMed ID: 15099980.
    Abstract:
BACKGROUND: Nephrotic syndrome (NS) is rarely associated with ovarian tumor. Only five cases of NS with pathologic diagnosis have been reported in patients with ovarian tumors. However, the association between minimal change disease (MCD) and ovarian tumor has not been previously reported. CASE: A 55-year-old woman presented with abdominal mass and edema. Radiologic studies revealed a 10 x 10 x 11 cm-sized mass and multiple enlarged lymph nodes, suggesting a malignant ovarian tumor. Urinalysis showed heavy proteinuria (4+) with decreased serum albumin and increased cholesterol levels, suggesting NS. She underwent operation and renal biopsy. Histopathology of the mass and the kidney revealed papillary serous carcinoma of the ovary and MCD, respectively. Oral prednisolone and adjuvant chemotherapy resulted in remission of NS. CONCLUSION: We herein report a case of MCD associated with ovarian carcinoma.
