  • Title: [Endothelium contributes to the decreased aortic contractility in response to norepinephrine in experimental septic rats].
    Author: Liu T.
Journal: Zhongguo Yi Xue Ke Xue Yuan Xue Bao; 1992 Apr; 14(2):151-4. PubMed ID: 1535564.
    Abstract:
The responses to norepinephrine of thoracic aortic rings from septic and sham operated rats were compared. Rings with endothelium taken from septic rats manifested significantly lower maximal contractile response to norepinephrine (575 +/- 46.1 mg) in comparison with sham operated tissues (775 +/- 54.7 mg). Tissues without endothelium showed no significant difference. The results suggest that the diminished responsiveness to norepinephrine of the thoracic aorta in septic rats is mediated, at least in part, by vascular endothelium.
