  • Title: [Modern therapy of COPD].
    Author: Pariente R, Aubier M.
Journal: Bull Acad Natl Med; 2004; 188(1):67-74; discussion 74-5. PubMed ID: 15368926.
    Abstract:
Although the prevalence of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) is gradually increasing in all industrialized countries, there have been relatively few treatment advances. Recently, a better understanding of the cellular and molecular mechanisms involved in the inflammatory and destructive processes underlying COPD has identified new therapeutic targets. Several classes of drug are now in preclinical and clinical development: phosphodiesterase-4 inhibitors, protease inhibitors and remodelling agents such as retinoic acid will be available in the near future.
