  • Title: [Differences in the course and management of urinary tract infections in children].
    Author: Wyszyńska T.
Journal: Pol Arch Med Wewn; 2004 Oct; 112 Spec No():33-40. PubMed ID: 15669200.
    Abstract:
Urinary tract infection is a common disease in childhood affecting 7,8% girls and 1,6% boys. Despite frequent reinfections, the ultimate outcome is favorable. Progressive renal damage may occur in children with obstructive uropathy, high-grade vesicoureteral reflux and those with recurrences of acute pyelonephritis. The infection, especially in children under 5 years of age should be treated promptly to prevent possible renal scarring. In children with vesicoureteral reflux and recurrences of acute pyelonephritis long-term antibacterial treatment is indicated.
