Title: 'Spiking' as a rapid method for differentiation of Candida albicans from other yeast species. Author: Barnes RA, Vale L. Journal: J Hosp Infect; 2005 May; 60(1):78-80. PubMed ID: 15823662. Abstract: This paper describes a simple and rapid method for the differentiation of Candida albicans from other yeast species in primary cultures based on colonial morphology following incubation in carbon dioxide. The technique has superior sensitivity to the traditional germ-tube method and requires no additional laboratory tests. In a busy laboratory, this can result in significant savings in cost and time, as well as improvements in patient care.[Abstract] [Full Text] [Related] [New Search]
