Abstract: The development and the present practice of percutaneous coronary interventions are outlined. The author considers the application of coronary stents, which prevents the abrupt coronary occlusion during balloon angioplasty and up-to-date antiplatelet therapy the basis for the present success and distribution of the method. In the years to come the number of interventional laboratories and patients treated by percutaneous methods will grow also in Hungary.
