Title: Reduction of blood pressure variability: a new strategy for the treatment of hypertension. Author: Su DF, Miao CY. Journal: Trends Pharmacol Sci; 2005 Aug; 26(8):388-90. PubMed ID: 15990175. Abstract: The main aims of the treatment of hypertension are to prevent end-organ damage (EOD) and to avoid consequent lethal complications associated with hypertension. Blood pressure level is a well-known determinant of EOD. However, recent studies suggest that blood pressure variability (BPV) is as important as blood pressure level in determining EOD. The reduction of BPV is an important contributory factor of the organ protection provided by some antihypertensive drugs. Thus, reduction of BPV might represent a new strategy for the treatment of hypertension.[Abstract] [Full Text] [Related] [New Search]
