Title: [Occurrence of second and third malignant tumors in patients with gynaecological cancer]. Author: Ivanov S, Garanina Z. Journal: Akush Ginekol (Sofiia); 2005; 44(3):22-4. PubMed ID: 16028387. Abstract: OBJECTIVE: The aim of our study was to evaluate the occurrence of multiple primitive malignant gynaecological tumours in the genital tract, breast or other organs. We assessed the relationship between these tumours and we tried to find the association between localization, histology and staging. MATERIALS AND METHODS: The records of patients with gynaecological and breast cancer were used for the period of 1990 till 2003. RESULTS: From 5025 women with gynaecological cancer in 40 women (0.79%) appeared a second primitive malignant tumour. From these neoplasias--23 patients (57.5%) the tumours were localized in the region of the genital tract. The most common combination was endometrial cancer/breast cancer (7 cases); bilateral cancer of the breast (6 cases) and ovarian cancer/endometrial cancer (5 cases). Most of the gynaecological tumours were synchronous. The most common non-gynaecological localization was colon/rectum--in 14 cases (35%). Three patients had triple tumours (7.5%). CONCLUSIONS: Nevertheless that the occurrence of second and third malignant tumour is very rare, we have to take it under consideration. The differential diagnosis with cancer metastases is very important, because of the different kind of treatment and prognosis.[Abstract] [Full Text] [Related] [New Search]
