Title: [The effect of the type of astigmatism on the incidence of myopia]. Author: Czepita D, Filipiak D. Journal: Klin Oczna; 2005; 107(1-3):73-4. PubMed ID: 16052807. Abstract: PURPOSE: To determine whether and how with-the-rule, against-the-rule or oblique astigmatism influence the creation of myopia. MATERIAL AND METHODS: A total of 167 people with myopia (117 women and 50 men) of the age between 12 and 51, were examined. The overall average age was 24. Routine ophthalmological examinations as well as autorefractometry were carried out. The data was analysed using the coefficients of rang Spearman's correlation. RESULTS: It was found that with the rise of with-the-rule astigmatism myopia increases (P < 0.000001). Any correlation between the people with low, medium, and high myopia and the against-the-rule as well as oblique astigmatism was not observed. CONCLUSIONS: (1) With-the-rule astigmatism predisposes the creation of myopia. (2) Against-the-rule as well as oblique astigmatism has no influence on the creation of myopia.[Abstract] [Full Text] [Related] [New Search]
