Title: [Self-management of anticoagulation therapy]. Author: Diehm C. Journal: MMW Fortschr Med; 2005 Jul 21; 147(29-30):34-6. PubMed ID: 16116846. Abstract: Patents on anticoagulation therapy benefit appreciably from so-called coagulation self-management. Thus, in comparison with patients receiving conventional management, self-managers showed a higher level of treatment quality, better compliance and a lower complication rate (ESCAT studies). In addition, self-monitoring permits greater flexibility and independence, quality of life improves, and the doctor-patient relationship benefits. Appropriate devices have been available in Germany since 1994. A prerequisite for the payment of the costs by health insurances is the participation of the patient in a theoretical and practical educational program, and his/her presumed life-long need for anticoagulation therapy.[Abstract] [Full Text] [Related] [New Search]
