Abstract: It has been a generally held notion that the association of cyanotic congenital heart diseases with hypertrophic osteoarthropathy (HOA) is exceptional. However, recent prospective studies have demonstrated the opposite to be true. More than a third of patients with cyanotic heart diseases have HOA. The skeletal changes are more prevalent, more persistent and more severe than in any other internal illness.
