    Abstract:
As part of the study "Potential and Limitation of Independent Living in Private Households in Germany" (MuG III, 2002-2005)--financed by the Federal Ministry for Family Affairs, Senior Citizens, Women and Youth--Heinemann & PartnerInnen c/o Institute of Gerontological Research (IGF e.V., Berlin) analysed arrangements of care of elderly people still living at home. Due to this purpose private and professional caregivers and the person in need of help and care were interviewed. These interviews were transformed into case studies, a selection is presented here. They underline, that not only the objective needs of care determine the way and the amount of help. A variety of individual factors play a dominant role in the care situation. The most significant one is the quality of the relationship among the involved persons.
